Our Organization and Overview of Services 

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) Clinical Research Laboratory Services (SCCC-CRLS) offers comprehensive research support infrastructure for the management of research studies. 

The services that we offer are:

• sample handling, sample processing and sample shipping
• research supply inventorying and ordering
• sample short-term and long-term storage per protocol
• supply destruction and logistics

These services are fee-for-service and are offered to all SCCC members on an ala-carte basis; based upon the researcher’s specific needs. 

The SCCC-CRLS is comprised of two divisions: Research Inventory Management and Sample Management.

• The Research Inventory Management (RIM) team is responsible for the oversight of all research laboratory supplies such as tubes and pipettes, capital equipment such as centrifuges and freezers and supplies provided by sponsors known as “kits” and “shippers”. The RIM ensures that all SCCC Research sites have the supplies required for each patient visit, monitoring what is on hand, identifying supply thresholds, supply ordering from vendors and sponsors and the logistics for the delivery of supplies to all SCCC research sites. 

• The Sample Management team is responsible for sample handling, sample processing, sample short-term storage, and sample shipping. There are multiple labs that comprise the Sample Management infrastructure. The Hub of the Sample Management services is the Central Lab which is located on the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Campus. The Central Lab is complimented by 8 smaller, yet full-service, Network site labs. The Central Lab serves as a distribution hub for batch shipping and the distribution of supplies and dry ice to the Network sites. The 8 network sites serve SCCC patients in Deerfield Beach, Plantation, Lennar (Coral Gables), Kendall, Coral Springs, Aventura, Hollywood.
